What do Masonry or Timber fixing screws mean?

We supply standard fixing screws for the background wall for either a masonry/concrete type wall or for a timber based wall.

FDP Brackets
What are the wall mounted folding brackets and why are your brackets more expensive than others?

Our wall folding brackets have been designed and manufactured to provide a solution to allow anyone to build folding tables, chairs and benches with ease. They are robust, can be linked together to operate from a single release handle and come in four convenient sizes. When they fold down against a wall or fixing background, they are just ~21.05mm (just under 7/8”). We source all of our materials and parts locally, mostly within Ireland and the EU. We do not mass produce the brackets and have adopted a sustainable approach to both our business and that of our suppliers. Because of this, our cost of production is higher than that of mass produced items. We have elected quality over quantity. Our brackets are more versatile than any other alternative on the market, they can be linked together and controlled with a single handle, they are far slimmer and stronger than any other on the market and our design department has formulated many example drawings and details to provide solutions for rebated, recessed and flush tables.

What material are the brackets made from?

Our standard brackets are made from mild steel with a zinc plated (silver with a very slight blue hue colour) coating. We have also small stock of Stainless Steel (316 marine grade) in certain sizes (FDP14.5a, FDP23a and FDP28a), please contact info@folddownpro.com if you need larger quantities or a different size from what is currently available.

Do you supply screws and fixings to install the brackets?

Yes, we supply wall fixing screws for Masonry and Timber based fixing. We also provide fixing screws to fix the table, chair or bench to the brackets.

What table tops can I put on the brackets?

You can put any type of material on top of the brackets and use it as a table, chair, bench, countertop, worktop whatever you can imagine, once a method of fixing is available and the weight capacity limits are adhered too. The fixing holes from the brackets are 5mm diameter holes (13/64” diameter). The screws we provide are for timber, so depending on the table material, you may need to source different fixing screws. Contact us at info@folddownpro.com if you need some guidance on how to fix your selected table.

Do you sell tables with brackets already installed on them?

We do have small range of table sizes that are pre-cut from popular sizes people have used in the past. 600 wide x 800mm deep (23-5/8” x 31-1/2”) and 800mm wide x 600mm deep (31-1/2” x 23-5/8”). They also come in two colours, black or white. Check out the wall mounted folding tables here.

Are the brackets linkable? What is the maximum length of table/chair/bench/counter I can put on the brackets?

Yes, the ability to link the brackets together is a unique feature of our brackets. There should not be any limit as any multiples of brackets can be linked together, but in reality, it will become difficult to release the trip after 6 brackets at 24” centers. We have gone as long as 11ft with 6 brackets at 24”, the release mechanism operates sufficiently. After this length, we would advised upgrading the threaded rod to maintain enough rigidity to allow the trip handle pull to be more effective beyond 6 brackets.

What are the recommended centers for the brackets?

We recommend that the brackets centers should be between 400mm (16”) and 600mm (24”). The brackets can operate at larger centers with the acceptance that there will be a reduced load-bearing capacity. Some customers have used centres up to 800mm (32”) to 900mm (36”) without any difficulty, all that was needed was some extra threaded rod and some u-clips to prevent the rod from sagging.

What are the maximum and minimum depth of table/chair/bench/counter that can be used?

The brackets come in four sizes and their naming convention gives the depth of the brackets in inches; The FDP14.5a is 371mm (14.5”) deep. The FDP19a is 484mm (19”) deep. The FDP23a is 584mm (23”) deep. The FDP28a is 713mm (28”) deep. We recommend that the table depths for each bracket should be as follows; FDP14.5a - Table Minimum = 15”, Table Maximum = 20”. FDP19a - Table Minimum = 19.5”, Table Maximum = 24”. FDP23a - Table Minimum = 23.5”, Table Maximum = 29”. FDP28a - Table Minimum = 28.5”, Table Maximum = 32”.

How many fixing holes does each bracket have to fixing to table and wall?

FDP14.5a: Table Fixing Holes = 6, Wall Fixing Holes = 3 Masonry / 4 Timber. FDP19a: Table Fixing Holes = 8, Wall Fixing Holes = 4 Masonry / 6 Timber. FDP23a: Table Fixing Holes = 8, Wall Fixing Holes = 4 Masonry / 6 Timber. FDP28a: Table Fixing Holes = 8, Wall Fixing Holes = 4 Masonry / 6 Timber.

What is the connecting threaded rod and how much is supplied, if I need extra can I source it myself?

The threaded rod is a means to connect the release mechanisms of multiple brackets that can be then controlled from one release handle. As standard we supply 2 lengths of threaded rod (500mm (19.5”) each) with a connection coupler which will suit centres up to 1000mm (39”). You can add extra threaded rod from the order page. If you require more, send us an email shortly after the order to orders@folddownpro.com and let us know your proposed centres. We use M4 metric threaded rod (4mm (5/32”) diameter). It is a relatively common item and can be found in most hardware stores.

Can the brackets fold beyond 90 degrees to the wall?

Not generally, although the brackets have the ability to rise slightly above 90 degrees due to the threaded “T” levelling screw. This function can be very useful if the fixing background is not entirely flat and plumb.

Why do you sell the brackets only in pairs? Can I purchase a single bracket?

The brackets have a very slight amount of play in the right to left direction that will serve to compensate for uneven walls and other issues discussed in the faq section. For rigidity in the horizontal plane (left to right direction), the brackets should be used in pairs. We have had situations where a single bracket was used in a narrow table where it is accepted by the customer that there would be some play in the horizontal direction and the load on the table would not be excessive. If you would like one single bracket contact us at info@folddownpro.com.

What do Masonry or Timber fixing screws mean?

We supply standard fixing screws for the background wall for either a masonry/concrete type wall or for a timber based wall.

What does left or right release handle mean?

The brackets can be released from a single handle and this can be located on the left or the right hand side of the table (as you would view the table fixed to the wall and facing that wall). The brackets are no longer reversible by default, so the bracket you receive will be tailored to a left or right release handle. They can be reversed by swapping out the sliding channel with an opposite channel. If you were unsure of which side you need, contact us at info@folddownpro.com. In general the most common side selected is left hand side. Other reasons for selecting left or right would be the placement of the table and the presence of an obstruction on either side that may make it difficult to access the handle i.e. one side may be abutting a wall. If the table is placed in an alcove with walls on both sides it may be beneficial to provide a cut out in the table to access the handle from the top on one side. Contact us at info@folddownpro.com if you need more information.

Are the brackets ADA compliant?

As we are based in Ireland, we operate under different regulatory requirements. We recommend that you consult with your designer or local authority as to whether or not the particular setup is ADA compliant.

Can the brackets be recessed and made to be flush with the wall?

Yes, we have worked with many customers to achieve a flush finish with the wall where an option exists to create a rebate in the wall, check out the blog section for more information, we will be adding posts regularly and the rebated tables should be posted in the near future.

Can the brackets be released from both sides?

By placing a handle on both sides, one handle will be pull to release and one handle will be push to release. Contact us at info@folddownpro.com if you require this option.

What fixing background is required to fix the brackets to?

The brackets should be fixed to a background that is solid enough to take the dead weight and the imposed loads from the table. We recommend that for masonry the minimum depth of block/brick/concrete or the like, should be 100mm (4”). For timber stud walls, we would recommend a minimum stud depth of 75mm (3”). There are alternatives, such as layers of plywood or similar hard or soft wood in rails to suit the fixing holes of the bracket or in sheet form. Alternative fixing screws may be required. This section should be updated shortly to provide additional fixing arrangements. Please note that fixing arrangement guides are for reference only and Eureka Manufacturing Ltd trading as Fold Down Pro. accepts no liability for fixing conditions, you must be satisfied that the fixing background is adequate for the proposed dead and imposed loads on the table/chair/bench. Please contact us to discuss alternative arrangements at info@folddownpro.com.

Can I fix the brackets directly to plasterboard, timber sheeting and the like?

Plasterboard, chip board sheeting, MDF and the like are not strong enough to support the brackets on their own.

Can the brackets be fixed to steel studs?

Yes, the brackets have been fixed to steel studs in the past without difficulty. You will need to source alternative fixings though.

Can the brackets be bolted to a wall or sheet type background?

Yes, it often occurs that our brackets need to be bolted to a sheet type material, such as steel, aluminium, etc. The sheet material should have a minimum thickness of 2mm and the use of washers in the background would be encouraged to spread the load around the fixing location. Contact for advice at info@folddownpro.com if you require assistance.

Can I fix the table to the brackets before fixing them all to the wall?

Yes, it can be beneficial to fix the brackets to the table beforehand to make sure the brackets are 100% aligned. We will post a video in the blog soon to show the procedure we use here to fix the brackets to our standard tables. If you need assistance please contact us at info@folddownpro.com.

Are the brackets tested to an international standard?

Unfortunately, at this current time, there is no international standard for wall mounted folding brackets. In our search for organisations that can test the brackets independently, they could only offer us certification under a vertical door hinge category, which we are sure you will agree would be entirely useless to determine the load bearing capacity and structural integrity of the brackets. We have tested the brackets extensively in-house, here are links are to two of those tests; Fold Down Pro Bracket Test: Maximum Load Fold Down Pro Bracket Test: Smashing Concrete Block

How much weight can the brackets support?

We have rated the brackets very conservatively at 264 lbs per pair. Actual tests showed loadbearing capacities in the excess of 1000 lbs per pair of brackets subject to normal installation conditions (centres between 16 and 24" and weight applied uniformly).

My fixing centers are further apart than what you recommend, what should I do?

Our brackets are very flexible for many different centering configurations. If you would like to place the centers further than our recommended, first you will need extra threaded rod to connect the bracket release mechanism and second, you will be accepting that the imposed loading capacity will be reduced. Another consideration would that you might need a u-clip or similar item to hold the threaded rod up, to prevent it from sagging across the extra length. Contact us at info@folddownpro.com if you need more guidance or have any questions on the centers.

What is the minimum distance for fixing centers and the minimum size of table?

The minimum bracket centres can be is 3-6/16” (84mm). The minimum table width would be approximately 9” (225mm).

How close to the edge of a table can I place the brackets and handle?

The side where the handle will be, we recommend a minimum distance of 2" (54mm) from the outer face of the bracket to the edge of the table. On the opposite side, it would be 1-13/16" (45mm).

When would I need an odd number of brackets?

We recommend staying close to the recommended centers as possible to achieve the best loadbearing capacity. A pair of brackets would usually be setup under the folding table at 6” in from each end and at 16 to 24” centres, making the normal table widths 28” and 36” for a pair of brackets. We get a lot of enquiries for tables that are wider than 36”. As discussed before, you can stretch out the centers while accepting a reduced load bearing capacity, or you can add a 3rd, 4th, 5th and so on to suit your table width. Another thing to bear in mind is the strength of the fixing background. The weaker the fixing background, the more connections would be advisable and to achieve more connections to the wall it would be the addition of brackets.

Ironing Boards

Compact Ironing Boards
What is the Wall Mounted Folding Ironing Board Compact?

The compact wall mounted ironing board is the perfect space saving ironing board that is hassle free and saves you time from setting up a normal standalone ironing board. With its single click release mechanism it folds down against the wall out of the way. It measures just 4cm (1-1/2") overall when folded down. The ironing board comes ready to install and fully assembled. It is available in different colour backing plates. The hinge and backing plate are made from mild steel and finished in either a powder coated colour finish or silver zinc plating. The moving parts are made from silver zinc plated mild steel. The ironing board itself is a furniture grade birch plywood covered in a metallic silver cotton cover with a protective coating.

What is the size of the ironing board?

The overall size of the compact ironing board, while folded against the wall is 86cm (33-3/4") long, 30.5cm (12") wide and projects 4cm (1-1/2") out from the wall. The ironing board itself is generally 81cm(32") long by 30.5cm (12") wide.

What is the ironing surface size?

The ironing board surface is 81cm(32") long by 30.5cm (12") wide.

What are the colour options and what is the difference between the coloured plates and zinc plated?

We have a range of different colour powder coated backing plates and hinges as follows; - White (RAL 9016) - Black (RAL 9005) - Red (RAL 2002) - Light Green (RAL 6027) - Orange (RAL 2011) - Yellow (RAL 1023) - Pastel Green (RAL 6019) - Grey (RAL 7046) The coloured versions above all come with a built in iron rest that can be folded out to hold the iron while you are moving a garment around on the board. The silver zinc plated edition is our base model and does not include the iron rest.

Why do I not have an iron rest on the ironing board I purchased?

This means you have purchased the silver zinc plated version. This version does not have an iron rest attached and this allows it to be cheaper than the other models.

Do you have different colour covers?

No, all of the ironing boards have the same metallic silver covers.

How does the ironing board lock into position and release to fold down?

The compact ironing boards come with a variation of our patented hinge system where a continuous strut bar is fixed into a holder in the wall plate and it then slides through a sliding channel and locks in place at 90 degrees to the wall. An easy one-click release mechanism releases to strut bar and allows the ironing board to drop down to the wall.

What weight can the board support?

The ironing board is rated to support a load of 15kg (33lbs) at the outermost tip.

Does the ironing board have a support leg?

No, the ironing boards hinge is strong enough to remove the need for a support leg.

What is the minimum height I can fix the board to the wall?

The average height of an ironing board is 89cm (35") from the floor. When the ironing board is folded up into the service position the actual level of the board will be sitting slightly above the top of the wall plate, approximately 1.3cm (1/2"). The minimum mounting height should be 86cm (33-3/4") from the floor to the top of the backing plate which will leave approximately 3mm (1/8") clearance between the tip of the board and the floor. The ironing board can overlap a 1/2" skirting board up to 14cm (5-1/2") tall. Where the skirting board is thicker than 1/2", the ironing board will not hang at exactly 90 degrees to the floor, but it should be hardly noticeable with a skirting thickness of 3/4".

Can I fix the ironing board to just one timber stud?

Yes, there are staggered fixing holes in the backing plate that cater for fixing to one stud.

Can I install the ironing board to the back of a door?

Yes, but it should be a solid door and you would need short fixing screws as the ones we provide are longer than the thickness of most doors. Also the ironing board does not lock into the down position so it may move when you open or close the door.

What is the ironing boards surface and is it suitable for a steam iron?

The ironing board is made from furniture grade birch plywood, it is covered then with a cotton silver metallic cover with a protective coating. It is suitable for steam irons.

What assembly is required and are screws provided?

No assembly required as it is ready for installation and use. We also provide all fixing screws required.

Where can I find replacement covers?

You can add a single cover as an option while purchasing. Or you can find them here if you require more than a single cover or just need to replace an old one. Replacement Covers

How long do the covers normally last?

Most of our customers find they do not need to replace the cover until about 2 years. It mostly depends on how much ironing you do.

Deluxe Ironing Boards
What is the Wall Mounted Deluxe Ironing Board?

The Wall Mounted Deluxe Ironing Board is an ironing board that is concealed in a wall mounted cabinet when not in use. The ironing board folds up when not in use and down when in the service position. The board and cabinet are made from furniture grade birch plywood and the frames are assembled and prepared to give a gloriously smooth surface. The door is made from medium density fibreboard (MDF) to eliminate the possibility of warping. The door is fixed to the cabinet using a continuous silver plated piano hinge.

What is the size of the cabinet for the deluxe ironing board?

The cabinet measures 122.5cm (48-1/4") tall by 38cm (14-7/8") and just 8cm (3") deep so when you fix it to a wall the projection will be 8cm (3") including the door.

What is the ironing board size?

The surface of the ironing board itself is 106.5cm (42") long by 31cm (12-1/4") wide.

What do you mean by Primed?

Our Wall Mounted Folding Ironing Board Deluxe Primed comes with undercoat paint that is ready for painting to whatever colour you choose.

What paint do you use on the cabinets?

We use a matt water based primer as the undercoat. Then we finish the cabinet with a semi-gloss water based paint.

What do you mean by right or left hinge option?

As you are looking at the cabinet the door hinge will be located at the right or left hand side. So if you choose the right hand side option the door will open out to the right and vice versa to the left option.

How far does the cabinet door open?

The door can open more than 180 degress, all the way to the wall.

How does the cabinet door stay closed?

A magnet is built into the cabinet and door to keep it closed and to open there is a little overhang from the door to allow you to grip and open the door.

What weight can the ironing board support?

The ironing board is rated to support a load of 15kg (33lbs) at the outermost tip.

Does the ironing board have a support leg?

No, the hinge that is built into the cabinet is strong enough to support the ironing board that it does not need a support leg.

I can only fix to one timber stud, will this be enough to support the cabinet?

Yes, there is no problem with fixing to one stud. We have instructions here to show this: Deluxe wall mounted ironing board installation instructions

Do you have different colour covers?

No, all of the ironing boards have the same metallic silver covers.
