Our wall folding brackets have been designed and manufactured to provide a solution to allow anyone to build folding tables, chairs and benches with ease. They are robust, can be linked together to operate from a single release handle and come in four convenient sizes. When they fold down against a wall or fixing background, they are just ~21.05mm (just under 7/8”). We source all of our materials and parts locally, mostly within Ireland and the EU. We do not mass produce the brackets and have adopted a sustainable approach to both our business and that of our suppliers. Because of this, our cost of production is higher than that of mass produced items. We have elected quality over quantity. Our brackets are more versatile than any other alternative on the market, they can be linked together and controlled with a single handle, they are far slimmer and stronger than any other on the market and our design department has formulated many example drawings and details to provide solutions for rebated, recessed and flush tables.

Our standard brackets are made from mild steel with a zinc plated (silver with a very slight blue hue colour) coating. We have also small stock of Stainless Steel (316 marine grade) in certain sizes (FDP14.5a, FDP23a and FDP28a), please contact info@folddownpro.com if you need larger quantities or a different size from what is currently available.

Yes, we supply wall fixing screws for Masonry and Timber based fixing. We also provide fixing screws to fix the table, chair or bench to the brackets.

You can put any type of material on top of the brackets and use it as a table, chair, bench, countertop, worktop whatever you can imagine, once a method of fixing is available and the weight capacity limits are adhered too. The fixing holes from the brackets are 5mm diameter holes (13/64” diameter). The screws we provide are for timber, so depending on the table material, you may need to source different fixing screws. We do have small range of table sizes that are pre-cut from popular sizes people have used in the past. 600 wide x 800mm deep (23-5/8” x 31-1/2”) and 800mm wide x 600mm deep (31-1/2” x 23-5/8”). They also come in two colours, black or white. Check out the wall mounted folding tables here.

Yes, the ability to link the brackets together is a unique feature of our brackets. There should not be any limit as any multiples of brackets can be linked together, but in reality, it will become difficult to release the trip after 6 brackets at 24” centers. We have gone as long as 11ft with 6 brackets at 24”, the release mechanism operates sufficiently. After this length, we would advised upgrading the threaded rod to maintain enough rigidity to allow the trip handle pull to be more effective beyond 6 brackets.

We recommend that the brackets centers should be between 400mm (16”) and 600mm (24”). The brackets can operate at larger centers with the acceptance that there will be a reduced load-bearing capacity. Some customers have used centres up to 800mm (32”) to 900mm (36”) without any difficulty, all that was needed was some extra threaded rod and some u-clips to prevent the rod from sagging.

The brackets come in four sizes and their naming convention gives the depth of the brackets in inches; The FDP14.5a is 371mm (14.5”) deep. The FDP19a is 484mm (19”) deep. The FDP23a is 584mm (23”) deep. The FDP28a is 713mm (28”) deep. We recommend that the table depths for each bracket should be as follows; FDP14.5a - Table Minimum = 15”, Table Maximum = 20”. FDP19a - Table Minimum = 19.5”, Table Maximum = 24”. FDP23a - Table Minimum = 23.5”, Table Maximum = 29”. FDP28a - Table Minimum = 28.5”, Table Maximum = 32”.

The threaded rod is a means to connect the release mechanisms of multiple brackets that can be then controlled from one release handle. As standard we supply 2 lengths of threaded rod (500mm (19.5”) each) with a connection coupler which will suit centres up to 1000mm (39”). You can add extra threaded rod from the order page. If you require more, send us an email shortly after the order to orders@folddownpro.com and let us know your proposed centres. We use M4 metric threaded rod (4mm (5/32”) diameter). It is a relatively common item and can be found in most hardware stores.

Not generally, although the brackets have the ability to rise slightly above 90 degrees due to the threaded “T” levelling screw. This function can be very useful if the fixing background is not entirely flat and plumb.

The brackets have a very slight amount of play in the right to left direction that will serve to compensate for uneven walls and other issues discussed in the faq section. For rigidity in the horizontal plane (left to right direction), the brackets should be used in pairs. We have had situations where a single bracket was used in a narrow table where it is accepted by the customer that there would be some play in the horizontal direction and the load on the table would not be excessive. We supply standard fixing screws for the background wall for either a masonry/concrete type wall or for a timber based wall.

The brackets can be released from a single handle and this can be located on the left or the right hand side of the table (as you would view the table fixed to the wall and facing that wall). The brackets are no longer reversible by default, so the bracket you receive will be tailored to a left or right release handle. They can be reversed by swapping out the sliding channel with an opposite channel. If you were unsure of which side you need, contact us at info@folddownpro.com. In general the most common side selected is left hand side. Other reasons for selecting left or right would be the placement of the table and the presence of an obstruction on either side that may make it difficult to access the handle i.e. one side may be abutting a wall. If the table is placed in an alcove with walls on both sides it may be beneficial to provide a cut out in the table to access the handle from the top on one side. As we are based in Ireland, we operate under different regulatory requirements. We recommend that you consult with your designer or local authority as to whether or not the particular setup is ADA compliant.

Yes, we have worked with many customers to achieve a flush finish with the wall where an option exists to create a rebate in the wall, check out the blog section for more information, we will be adding posts regularly and the rebated tables should be posted in the near future.

The brackets should be fixed to a background that is solid enough to take the dead weight and the imposed loads from the table. We recommend that for masonry the minimum depth of block/brick/concrete or the like, should be 100mm (4”). For timber stud walls, we would recommend a minimum stud depth of 75mm (3”). There are alternatives, such as layers of plywood or similar hard or soft wood in rails to suit the fixing holes of the bracket or in sheet form. Alternative fixing screws may be required. Yes, the brackets have been fixed to steel studs in the past without difficulty. You will need to source alternative fixings though.

Yes, it often occurs that our brackets need to be bolted to a sheet type material, such as steel, aluminium, etc. The sheet material should have a minimum thickness of 2mm and the use of washers in the background would be encouraged to spread the load around the fixing location. Yes, it can be beneficial to fix the brackets to the table beforehand to make sure the brackets are 100% aligned. We will post a video in the blog soon to show the procedure we use here to fix the brackets to our standard tables. If you need assistance please contact us at info@folddownpro.com.

Unfortunately, at this current time, there is no international standard for wall mounted folding brackets. In our search for organisations that can test the brackets independently, they could only offer us certification under a vertical door hinge category, which we are sure you will agree would be entirely useless to determine the load bearing capacity and structural integrity of the brackets. We have rated the brackets very conservatively at 264 lbs per pair. Actual tests showed loadbearing capacities in the excess of 1000 lbs per pair of brackets subject to normal installation conditions (centres between 16 and 24" and weight applied uniformly).

Our brackets are very flexible for many different centering configurations. If you would like to place the centers further than our recommended, first you will need extra threaded rod to connect the bracket release mechanism and second, you will be accepting that the imposed loading capacity will be reduced. Another consideration would that you might need a u-clip or similar item to hold the threaded rod up, to prevent it from sagging across the extra length. The minimum bracket centres can be is 3-6/16” (84mm). The minimum table width would be approximately 9” (225mm).

The side where the handle will be, we recommend a minimum distance of 2" (54mm) from the outer face of the bracket to the edge of the table. On the opposite side, it would be 1-13/16" (45mm).

We recommend staying close to the recommended centers as possible to achieve the best loadbearing capacity. A pair of brackets would usually be setup under the folding table at 6” in from each end and at 16 to 24” centres, making the normal table widths 28” and 36” for a pair of brackets. We get a lot of enquiries for tables that are wider than 36”. As discussed before, you can stretch out the centers while accepting a reduced load bearing capacity, or you can add a 3rd, 4th, 5th and so on to suit your table width. Another thing to bear in mind is the strength of the fixing background. The weaker the fixing background, the more connections would be advisable and to achieve more connections to the wall it would be the addition of brackets.
